These glinting earrings are cast from a Catbrier thorn - a determined and tenacious climbing vine that forms dense thickets when left to its own devices.

NATURAL HISTORY

Smilax rotundifolia

Catbriers, also known as greenbriers, are a tenacious climbing vine that reaches out with tendrils to grow and spread into dense thickets when left to its own devices. The plant blooms with small yellow-green flowers in May and June. Although catbriers cause trouble for gardeners they are an important native species and their berries feed black bears, bluebirds and sparrows and deer feed on their leaves.

Greenbriers take their name from the Greek myth of Crocus and Smilax. Crocus, a mortal man, fell in love with the nymph Smilax and was transformed into a flower and Smilax, the woodland nymph, was transformed into a brambly vine.

METAPHOR

Quality

Thicket jewelry is carefully made by hand, one piece at a time, by designer Rebecca Perea-Kane using traditional metalsmithing techniques. You can learn more about Rebecca and the process right here. Pieces are designed and crafted to be of heirloom quality.

Thicket will clean, re-oxidize and repair your Thicket jewelry at any point in its lifetime (which will be long!). Email hello@shopthicket.com or send a message if you have a piece in need of some love.

Care

Thicket jewelry is meant to be worn and loved but it's always advisable to remove jewelry before exercising, swimming and using harsh chemicals such as cleaning solutions. If you use your hands for work or for other pursuits like gardening or cooking, it's also a good idea to remove rings and bracelets. (And if the piece includes a set diamond you will definitely want to take it off for any activity where it may experience any impacts!)

You can clean your jewelry at home with a soft jewelry cloth or with a gentle soap and a soft toothbrush. If your piece includes oxidized sterling silver avoid vigorous polishing to preserve the darkened finish.

If your piece is set with a diamond it is important to regularly inspect it to be sure the diamond is secure and that there is no movement of the stone in the setting.

If you have any questions about the care of your jewelry get in touch!

Gift that she loved!

I gave these catbrier thorn earrings to my sister-in-law. She said she'd been eyeing Thicket jewelry for awhile and was so excited to see the packaging, which itself is crafted carefully and beautifully. My sister-in-law loved the petite dangling silver thorns; she intends to wear them often!

Dainty and perfect

My husband bought these for me after I found your jewelry out of the blue and pointed out how much I liked them. I have a love of simple and timeless jewelry, and these earrings caught my attention. They are dainty but I feel they make a big statement. They are light and the perfect minimal earrings you can wear daily. I love supporting small businesses especially when the love shines through in what you do!

Simple and stunning

I was overjoyed to receive such beautiful earrings. They are delicate but stand out and easily can be everyday earrings. I haven't taken them off yet! And the entire ordering and delivery experience was a breeze.

Tiny Thorns as a Reminder...

I love the beautiful delicacy of Thickets nature inspired jewelry. These tiny thorns remind me that beauty can be the result of growth through painful things and what we view as painful is at times a blessing. These earrings are delicate and subtlety fierce. Thank you for making beautiful jewelry Becca with great meaning.
