coffee peaberry necklace
A tiny peaberry coffee bean. From inimitable local Maine roaster Speckled Ax.
NATURAL HISTORY
Coffea arabica
Coffee consumption likely has its origins in Yemen and Ethiopia hundreds of years ago. Coffee plants are now cultivated in over seventy countries around the world.
These earrings are cast from peaberry coffee beans. Most coffee beans are paired inside the coffee cherry. The flattened side of beans occur where the two seeds press against each other. Peaberry beans are alone in the fruit and without this pressure end up with a rounded shape. This happens in around five percent of beans and the peaberry beans are usually smaller than typical beans. They are separated by hand in the roasting process and often have subtle, fermented undertones in their taste.
METAPHOR
Ritual and craft. The feeling of doing something familiar with great care.

Care
Thicket jewelry is meant to be worn and loved but it's always advisable to remove jewelry before exercising, swimming and using harsh chemicals such as cleaning solutions. If you use your hands for work or for other pursuits like gardening or cooking, it's also a good idea to remove rings and bracelets. (And if the piece includes a set diamond you will definitely want to take it off for any activity where it may experience any impacts!)
You can clean your jewelry at home with a soft jewelry cloth or with a gentle soap and a soft toothbrush. If your piece includes oxidized sterling silver avoid vigorous polishing to preserve the darkened finish.
If your piece is set with a diamond it is important to regularly inspect it to be sure the diamond is secure and that there is no movement of the stone in the setting.
